Schmuck and stuff….

06-09-10

So this morning was a riot of reviews, news, and weird ’sexy’ stories about birds - of both the human and avian variety. We reviewed the movie ‘Dinner for Schmucks’ - which Sez gave 6.75/10. If you missed it then listen back to the second hour here.

Steve Carell and Jemaine Clement

Our WhatsOn guide featured events such as the Sweelink festival at the Oude Kerk - a good event if the parents are in town! Plus food festivals, the Dam to Dam loop, music events and more….

Music highlights included Rusko, Cypress Hill, The Hoosiers, Brandon Flowers, The Pixies and the legend that is Willy Nelson - and to quote Cheech “I love Willy”. Don’t we all?

Leandra’s Last Show

01-09-10

Retiring English Breakfast Radio DJ Leandra Julian was given a farewell she’ll never forget this morning courtesy of Welsh singing sensation Aled Davies, who dropped by to serenade her live on air . There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the man widely known as the next Tom Jones ’saw-off’ Leandra with a rousing rendition of, ’I left my heart in San Francisco’.

The morning also featured tributes from fellow jocks; syrupy, mellow music and a very rich farewell cake which disappeared in a matter of seconds.

Leandra, a regular ‘Wednesday Warbler’ for over four years, has traded her headphones for a warm bed as the mornings get colder.

Her replacment from next Wednesday will be Australian whacko Dj Gonzo Franco.

Music Mad Monday Madness!

30-08-10

Monday morning green room regulars Francesca and Melissa received a pleasent surprise today when stand-in DJ Franko ‘Gonzo’ Movizio informed the delicious duo of their new nickname…’the sex kittens’.

The nickname, a product of the English Breakfast Radio ‘boys-club’, was welcomed by the ladies and it seems the new title will stick!

“They were purring with delight”, said Franko. “The cameras were down today so English Breakfast viewers wishing to eyeball the ’sex kittens’, will have to tune in next week.”

Franko was the final fill-in jock for ‘Music Mad’ Monday host Sarah Jamieson who has been motor biking around Europe for the last three weeks.

Wake up with The Woodwards!

24-08-10

Previous English Breakfast guests The Woodwards have a busy time ahead of them. At the beginning of September they’ll be jetting off for their North America and Canada tour, and a few weeks after that they’ll set off again to tour the UK.

Why I am telling you this? Well, because this Friday night at De Dwaze Zaken will be your last chance to see The Woodwards in Amsterdam for a couple of months, so don’t miss out!

To promote the show we are playing one sneak preview track from The Woodwards’ upcoming EP ‘Burn Everything’ each day this week, so tune in to hear what all the fuss is about. Also, previous English Breakfast guest Merinde will be opening the night, so it promises to be a winner!

See you Friday at De Dwaze Zaken at 21:30!

19-08-10

This Thursday Matt and Leslie had part 2 in their poetry face-off, Matt tried to explain why writing to random 13 year old girls in Poland doesn’t require a restraining order.

Listen to first hour

Charin tried to dig himself out of a hole by saying there are films that deserve a 10/10 review and also tried to put some life into the ‘On This Day In History’ slot (failed). We also gave Sail 2010 a bloody good previewing alongside other fun stuff to do in Amsterdam coming up.

Listen to second hour

Come join us. We are a welcoming church with a broad congregation.

tuesday tries the Dam 2 Dam, the Amsterdam half-marathon and six packs by christmas

12-08-10

There was no misprint in the title.

Jamie and I have gotten a little carried away with the latest Tuesday Tries.

First we were going to run the Dam 2 Dam. Then it transpired that Jamie couldn’t make it so he would do the Amsterdam half-marathon instead.

This didn’t seem fair, so I decided to do the Dam 2 Dam as a warm up, and then join Jamie on the half-marathon too.

Then Jamie suggested that we also get 6 packs by Christmas.

Like I said, it all got out of hand, but now we’re in it up to our necks and our only real hope of success is the lovely Noemia from Xclusive Training who has agreed to help us as far as the Dam 2 Dam, after that we’re on our own.

Keep an eye on the website for weekly updates of our progress, and if we’re feeling really brave, we might even go for before and after photos….

Finally, Jamie and I will be blogging in more detail about our herculean challenge here. So keep an eye on that too.
